The single-policy problem
Many agencies have a large share of clients with only one policy. Those clients already trust you, yet nobody has asked whether their home, renters, life, or umbrella needs are handled. The reason is usually time, not opportunity.
Let AI sort the list
Export a simple spreadsheet from your management system with non-sensitive fields: client first name, policy types held, and renewal month. Then ask an AI tool to group clients by what they are missing. For example, auto-only clients who might own a home, or homeowners without an umbrella policy. Keep personal identifiers out of the file if you are using a public AI tool.
Write outreach that helps
Cross-selling works best when it sounds like a review, not a pitch. Ask the AI to draft messages along these lines:
- A short note offering a free coverage check-up before renewal
- An explanation of what an umbrella policy is, in two sentences
- A question about life changes like a new home, car, or child
- A friendly offer to bundle and compare, with no pressure
Time it to renewals
Clients pay the most attention around renewal. Use the renewal month from your spreadsheet to schedule outreach thirty to forty-five days ahead. AI can help you write a reminder for each month so the process repeats automatically.
Keep it personal
Read each message before sending and adjust it for the people you know well. AI handles the first draft and the organizing. Your relationships and judgment are what turn the conversation into a policy.
